showa idols are basically japanese idols from the showa era (1960s-1989)
thats pretty much it lol idk what else to say
extremely important figures in japanese pop culture
if i remember correctly, it was in 2023 when i first encountered showa idols
on my youtube homepage, i saw a video recommended to me
it was hideki saijo's cover of YMCA!
i clicked on it and i really liked it :]
and hideki was probably the first showa idol
that i got really interested in.
i was already a big fan of 60s-70s retro type stuff and at that time
i was also really into vintage manga so discovering hideki saijo was like finding a pot of gold for me
i got really extremely invested in hideki. and i started researching abt him
and following old obachans on twitter to look at old pictures of him.
he was my first idol and i watched so many videos featuring him lol
but that wasnt my first and final encounter with showa idols
since i kept watching hideki saijo vids on youtube, other showa idol vids came up on my homepage
the next idol that i got extremely invested in was hiromi go. (lol)
i got really really invested in hiromi. oh my god i was actually insane
my obsession with hiromi was stronger than my obsession for hideki
i soon later found out abt shin gosanke and then johnnys and then the scope of showa idols became much clearer to me
and thats basically how i got into showa idols
thank you hideki saijo and hiromi go
theyre a permanent part of my personality now
idk i just like them. also i tend to enjoy more obscure/niche things so thats probably it too
(ik theyre not niche in japan
but in the west they are)
just seeing my favorite idols makes me happy
and they helped me alot during rough times
idk i just really enjoy idol culture! its so fun
and the fact that theyre obscure makes it more fun
to discover new things/information abt them
they have genuinely permanently changed my entire lifestyle. i love the fashion too
and i hope that i can decorate my bedroom like a showa style girl's bedroom
shin gosanke - love all 3 ^^
four leaves - oshi - ko-chan but i also love toshibo :3 ok well i love all of them
shonentai - i dont really have an oshi tbh i like all 3
kyonykon
momoe yamaguchi
akina nakamori
kenji sawada aka julie
honorable mentions - pink lady, hikaru genji, yukiko okada, joe toyokawa, yosuke tagawa
despite me being into showa idols for like 4 years now, i actually dont listen to a whole lot of them LOL just the popular ones i swear i need to indulge in more,, i really want to get into megumi asaoka, agnes chan, and a whole lot of other showa idols, especially the ones from the 60s-70s because i dont see them get a lot of attention. most ppl just talk abt 80s showa idols. i need to listen to others so bad,,, but when im deep into something i refuse to look at anything else. i am very much deep in the four leaves trenches rn,,
